The Merseyside Police Community Relations Dept in Wirral together with The North Wirral Crime Prevention Panel recently awarded a “ Good Citizen “ award to a young person from Woodchurch.
Mellisa New, who is 16 years old and lives in Woodchurch is a volunteer and member of Motivate - a charity based at St Mary’s Church, Church Road, Upton. She is one of a number of young advisors endeavouring to build links between youths and residents of the estate. She is also working at building relationships between the police and young people from the area.
Amongst the many things she has contributed to recently is transforming two derelict open spaces into memorial gardens for all the young people from the estate who have lost their lives. She has also been involved in distributing information to all local residents and taken part in the Chief Constable’s DRAGON BOAT challenge and assisted in the estates Jubilee celebrations.
Merseyside Police Youth Co-ordinator, Constable Colin Newby said “It’s always nice to be able to reward young people for positive actions that make Wirral a safer place to live work and visit.
